From the minute you step inside you are completely engulfed with "the hotel" story, there's a really nice bar with live music (Jazz) where you start the experience, and that's also where it ends. The show itself is, well, different, I've never been to this kind of a show. We got the tickets with reserved seats, that was really great as you don't have to wait in line and you always have a table to go back to if you need a break. I rarely write reviews but this one is worth the trouble. I guess that was what they were going for. However, the finale left the audience in shock. This wasn't a huge issue for me because it was entertaining, even if quite disorienting. For a few key scenes, references were apparent, but not enough to be aware that it was MacBeth. The play is supposed to be a more 'modern' take on MacBeth. It would just take a little additional effort and thought to make it truly 5 star-worthy IMO. Aside from the logistical messes, the performance is quite intriguing, as is the venue. Suggest you have some kind of strategy (follow an actor and go to different floors). dreadful things, probably to make sure actors don't run into a guest (and they do run). and oh yes, one group before me had their items 'lost'. We were there 7:15 and about 40 were ahead of us (NBD), but folks kept walking up and getting in ("premium ticket holders?") They require you to check your bags (and phone), but then try to sell drinks at the 'club' (you can bring your phone in, but they put it in a locked pouch that you carry around w/ you, so it's useless for payments). They really need to take a tip from Disney logistics folks. Set designs were interesting and detailed, which is why I have given 2 stars. Reasons to go: If you really like interpretative dancing, which is the core of what the actors do. This is smart business, but I don’t think it creates a better immersive experience- an experience built around giving you glimpses to questions that you need to spend more money to answer is psychologically manipulative and ultimately unsatisfying. This encourages your repeat attendance and repeat entrance fee. This deliberate choice is designed to create fear of missing out (FOMO) that you haven’t had the full Sleep No More experience. By design, you are missing out on MOST of the performance content in your visit, and the intersecting storylines remind you of this. You follow actors or explore at your own pace and may get fragments of the story in the process. FOMO: The core characteristic of the Sleep No More experience is that you are NOT presented a coherent story. $4 compulsory coat check on top of the entrance fee- really trying to squeeze every tiny bit of profit from the audience. Arrived on time yet not let in until 30 minutes later due to queue- basic timekeeping for timed entry seems unachievable by the front of house staff, definitely related to the volume of people they let in. This is a capacity and management problem, not an audience problem- everyone deserves the right to actually see the actors for a $140 entrance fee. If you try to follow the actors, you will be jostled constantly by audience members craning their necks for a better view. Profit-oriented: The most fundamental problem: the production. Overall i think id give the concept five stars but otherwise it was a mess. We tried to find the way out for about ten minutes (running into others doing the same), which left me a bit frustrated. It got tiring wandering floors looking for action/meaning. But the rest seemed unrelated and included only for mood or shock value. Spoiler: There were moving trees (macbeth-ish) and a screaming woman/bloody baby (same), i guess. They seemed to have no point except for perhaps mood or an attempt to titillate. They could have been interpreting “anything “. They were ok but didnt appear related in any way to the story. At one or two points i ran into five or so minute performances. Wandering was better but then you just saw theater sets. The crowd was a bit frenetic and just led to rushing, pushing and jockeying for view-not my thing. MGM's acclaimed production of William Shakespeare's Julius Caesar !. The filming developed an intent at historic realism, retelling various facts, finishing in the battle of Philippi, where the second triumvirate (Marc Anthony, Lepido and Octavius Augustus: Caesar's grandnephew and his heir) defeated Caesar's assassins and subsequently splitting the Empire among them. Idus of March- and they murdered Caesar. Then the aristocratic party, including Brutus (James Mason), supposedly Caesar's illegitimate son, and Cassius (John Gielgud) prepare a conspiracy at March 15, 44 B. C.) goes back to Rome and crosses the river Rubicon with attempt to do himself sole governor of the empire, a purpose resented by those who still had hopes of retaining the centuries-old Republican form of ruling. The picture happens after battles of Munda and Farsalia when Pompeyo is defeated by Julius Caesar (Louis Calhern) and once having conquered Gaul. This excellent and stagy adaptation of the Shakespeare play concerns greedy fighting power and epic-historical treatment in ancient Roman empire. Excepting those quibbles, this is a great film version of 'Julius Caesar'. The pace initially is a little deliberate. Only Louis Calhern disappoints as a rather bland Caesar. Greer Garson and Deborah Kerr make the most of their small roles. John Gielgud was similarly born for Cassius, the envy boils but is not exaggerated and Gielgud has a clear command over the language. James Mason is a similarly powerful Brutus, he brings out the character's conflicted feelings with sensitivity and a noble quality (despite what Brutus does, one cannot hate him). The famous "friends, romans, countrymen" speech is given one of the best and most nuanced interpretations here on film. It was a very bold move casting Marlon Brando as Marc Antony, he sears in the role with a lot of fire and dignity. Almost all of the performances are superb. The final scene is a problematic scene to get right, this is one of the better interpretations of it. The text does not sound stilted and is poetic and thoughtful, though like all Shakespeare it is talk heavy as a word of warning. The drama has intensity and emotional impact in the play, both of which brought out wonderfully. Mankiewicz directs beautifully and it was appreciated that he went for drama rather than spectacle, which to me was the right approach that it would make the text resonate more and it lessened the risk of the characterisation being swamped. Rozsa's score is typically lush and sweeping and has a real majesty about it. The 'Quo Vadis'-like sets are grand and lavish, if the budget really wasn't huge that was not obvious here. It is exquisitely photographed, though if it were in colour there would have been an even grander look, never trying to do too much while not being too constricted. There is so much to love here in 'Julius Caesar'. Adaptation-wise, there are changes and things left out but the spirit of the play is here and ambience wise and emotionally it's faithful. Which is quite a compliment considering that great Shakespeare film adaptations are many, whether traditional or not. It may not be a perfect film, but it is one of the better adaptations of the play out there on its own merits and to me one of the best film adaptations of any Shakespeare play. Found myself not disappointed in 1953's 'Julius Caesar' at all. Mankiewicz and that it was scored by one of the greatest film composers at the time Miklos Rozsa. Further interest points in seeing 1953's 'Julius Caesar' was its fine cast, that it was directed by Joseph L. The final scene is rarely nailed and the supporting characters are a lot more interesting than the titular character, but much of the characterisation is very well rounded, is intriguing thematically and has some of the bard's most famous speeches and lines. 'Julius Caesar' is not one of Shakespeare's best plays, neither is it one of his worst. The standard Freesat EPG isn't supported and standard DVB data wasn't picked up either, but Home Cinema does allow you to use the online tvtv service instead. The Home Cinema software isn't very elegant, but it provides a useful range of features, including the ability to record and timeshift live broadcasts, and a handy 'Mode' button that allows you to quickly switch between live TV, recordings and radio channels. The scanning process took 23 minutes, but was trouble-free. Luckily, Home Cinema was able to automatically detect that we had the Netstream Sat connected to our network and we were then able to install the software and start scanning for channels. Sadly, the Windows Media Centre on our Windows 7-powered laptop simply told us that it couldn't detect a TV signal and refused to proceed, so we moved on and installed Terratec's Home Cinema software instead. If you're using a PC then the manual states that you can either use the Windows Media Centre software that is included as part of Windows 7, or use the copy of Terratec's Home Cinema software that is also supplied with the Netstream Sat. Elgato has a strong background in the Mac market, so it includes its own easy-to-use EyeTV software for Mac users. Once you've plugged in the power and Ethernet cables you then need to install the software provided. This was not available for testing at the time of writing, but will cost around £90. This will allow the Netstream to stream two different channels to two computers at the same time. However, the Netstream Sat also has a USB port on the back that will allow you to connect an optional tuner module, the EyeTV Free. Having just a single LNB connector means that the Netstream Sat can only stream TV to one computer at a time, although it is possible to switch the TV signal from one computer to another if you want to. Just remember that you'll need a fairly powerful Mac or PC – preferably with a 2GHz processor – and a fast network connection to stream HD content. Other products are not affected. It supports both DVB-S and DVB-S2 broadcasts, so it can receive BBC HD, BBC One HD and ITV HD along with all the standard-definition Freesat channels. When Itward captures us in the net, he states that he has always been her imaginary friend, and that she imagined him because he already existed. There is photo of Fran's best friend who also has a cat, cat could have been mistakenly killed/put in coffin (Grace always states she thought she got rid of "the traitor) or, Mr Midnight is present in the "overlayed" reality where he is also alive (literally a sort of Schroedinger cat). Fran knows about his trauma using her power Grace believes in his work and they both kill Fran's parents that get in the way (summon Remor using symbol) and lie about Fran dying in the woods and just take her to be experimented on (multiple evidence of the world thinking she is dead, notes news articles).ĭoctor Deern is also investigating Fran's story and remarks she was reported dead. He may be the dude in the diary that goes to Ithersta (side note, possibly the wizard in Ithersta was human once) and he keeps struggling to get that power. Oswald wanted to continue his experiments on twins, possible related to jumping between worlds. For me it truly ends with Remor winning, because Remor, to me, is the symbolization of her psychosis when it's in full swing. Between guilt and fear, she chose madness. Notice she's flying on a rip-off Falkor next to a skeleton flying some weird machine with her talking cat with her. Guilt for doing it, or fear for what her mental condition will have her do next. She says "Between guilt and fear, I chose happiness." Guilt and fear, the two emotions someone who just KILLED THEIR PARENTS would feel. I had an interpretation of the ending as well. But hey, that's just a theory, a far fetched theory probably no more than 5 people will read. Everything but her parents dying and her being sent to a mental hospital. As someone else had said, it's either all real or all mad ramblings. Maybe after the first time she took the pills this all happened, or maybe as I said above, this happened after she killed her parents but before arriving at the mental institution. Here's where I start to lose certainty on what happened. The whole adventure, the ENTIRE THING, including the bad pills, could take place in her mind on the way to the mental institution. She imagines that other people see it too, so it MUST be real, right? The truth (as I see it anyway, it's fine if you don't agree) is that she is just an insane girl who killed her parents. It's possible she hallucinated the other children having hallucinations. Deern? The scribblings of "ITWARD" on the walls from other children? All hallucinations. The other children having the same hallucinations? The car ride talk with Dr. By all, I mean 99.9999% is in her head, and the other 0.0001% is reality being perverted beyond recognition in her mind. Hey, good theory! I just wanted to say that it is still possible that it's all in her head. That's all, if there's anything I missed, please comment! Thanks for reading! Other Fran states that she doesn't have a cat, and maybe that's true, the cat died, so she no longer has it. I believe that the dead cat comes from the same "layered reality" as the other Fran. The dead cat in the coffin is where things get tricky. Midnight a "traitor" is because she thought he was safely out of the way and not likely to do any harm. Midnight, much like she can understand the Kamalas when under the influence. Midnight can speak is that since Fran has taken so much Duotine, she can understand Mr. The higher levels of ektoplomatin cause this effect to be seen dramatically with things like the anthill and the well. The blurred line between reality and ultrareality is caused by her overuse of the pills, which remain in her system. What I haven't seen is a detail of Fran's reality people seem not to notice. However, she is already controlled by Oswald so she simply hands her over to the asylum.ĭuotine clearly causes the Ultrareality effect. Aunt Grace also knows about Fran killing her parents. There are a lot of theories that discount this, probably out of sympathy. The Ultrareality is also real with all of its weirdness.įran Bow killed her parents (under the influence of Remor). In addition, Itward is known by many children. It would be extremely unlikely for Leon and Fran to have the exact same hallucinations. It is clear by his picture with Oswald and other sources that he was a real person. My evidence is the Leon Castillo's journal. This is just my personal take.Įverything that happens is real. I know that there are many, many Fran Bow theories since MatPat just finished the game. The shark can sense frequencies in the range of 25 to 50 Hz. It detects motion or vibrations in water. This system is found in other fish as well. In bony fish and tetrapods the external opening into the inner ear has been lost. This and the sound-detecting organs are grouped together as the 'acoustico-lateralis system', because they have a common origin. It is open to the environment by a line of pores. The lateral line detects changes in water pressure. A small opening on each side of their heads (not the spiracle) leads directly into the inner ear through a thin channel. HearingĪlthough it is hard to test sharks' hearing, they may have a sharp sense of hearing and can possibly hear prey many miles away. Sharks may use this sense when they catch their prey, even more than they use their sight. These tiny electric currents make signals that travel through water and get sensed. Animal in the water give off electricity: every time an animal's heart beats or it moves, tiny currents of electricity are made. p23 They can sense electricity in the water. In them are which are nerve receptors called the ampullae of Lorenzini. Sharks have tiny holes all over the shark's snout, especially between the eye and the tip of the snout. Senses SmellĮlectromagnetic field receptors (Ampullae of Lorenzini) and motion detecting canals in the head of a shark However, the fastest swimming sharks (such as the Mako sharks) tend to have lunate-shaped (crescent-shaped) caudal fins. The strong, non-lunate caudal fin in most benthic shark species allows the shark to swim close to the seabed (such as the Nurse shark). The pectoral fins and the shape of the body (like an airfoil) work together to counter this force. The upper lobe of the caudal fin produces the most amount of the push, and usually forces the shark downwards. The primary use of the caudal fin is to provide a "push" while the shark swims. The caudal fin has both, an upper lobe, and a lower lobe, that can be of different sizes and the shape depends of which species the shark is. The peduncle may also be horizontally flattened into lateral keels. The caudal peduncle sometimes has notches known as "precaudal pits", which are found just ahead of the caudal fin. The tail region itself consists of the caudal peduncle and the caudal fin. Not all sharks have anal fins, but if they do have them, they are found between the pelvic and caudal fins. The pelvic fins are located behind the pectoral fins, near the claoca, and are also stabilizers. These fins are used for steering during swimming and help to provide the shark with lift. The pectoral fins are located behind the head and extend outwards. When spines are present, they are used for defensive purposes, and may also have skin glands with them that produce an irritating substance. These two fins may, or may not have spines. These fins help the shark from constantly rolling around. There are one or two fins present along the dorsal midline called the first and second dorsal fin. The fins of sharks are used for stabilizing, steering, lift and swimming. Sharks' teeth can be 20 times as big as human teeth and they can grow back if they are lost. If you rub along a shark towards the tail, it would feel smooth, but if you rub the other way, it would be rough. Sharks have skin covered in millions of tiny teeth-like scales that point to the tail. Every inch of tooth equals 10ft of shark length: so if a shark tooth is 2 inches long, the tooth came from a shark that was 20 ft long! Even more terrifying is that some of the Megalodon teeth are 6 inches long so that suggets a shark 60 feet long. Shark teeth collectors can guess how large a shark was by measuring the shark tooth! First, they measure the length of the tooth in inches. Because there are so many different kinds of sharks, and because each kind has its own kind of special teeth, many people enjoy collecting shark teeth. For instance, some sharks have sharp, pointy teeth, while bottom dwelling sharks have cone-shaped teeth for crushing shells. Sharks have different-shaped teeth, depending on what they eat. This is why a shark does not eat every day. This is pretty slow, however, so a meal might take several days to digest. The chunks of food that a shark swallows ends up in its stomach, where they are digested. So they bite their prey and jerk it around so they can pull of a chunk to swallow. Even with all those teeth, though, sharks can not chew. |
